ANTTI TANTTU
This collection of 16 lambda prints on photographic paper, mounted on aluminium has been made 2004-2006. The original pictures are Polaroid photos. The
pictures have white frames equal to the Polaroids of which there is an example on top. The size of the pictures is 110x99 cm, the edition of each is 3 and the collection is called Vanitas.
The artist finds traces of the old theme of mortality in a variety of objects, places and passing moments and the whole collection is a memento mori that makes the viewer
stop for a moment to think about his life. The dreamlike soft colours and strange atmosphere lend even the most common subjects like a Marseille soap
quality of big drama.
Antti Tanttu (born 1963) is the master of woodcut who has recently made also 8 mm films and photography. He lives in Helsinki and works at the Academy of Fine Art as professor in printmaking.
